At The End of The Land - Talya Rubin

These three words connect to the last three projects; AT THE END OF THE LAND (PICA Premiere, Talya Rubin), PREPARING GROUND (HOTA industry showing, Blakdance with Marilyn Miller, Katina Olsen and Jasmin Sheppard) and COMPLICATION OF LYREBIRDS (INDance, Sydney Dance season, Jasmin Sheppard). Parallel universes are offering insight into our projected futures, cellular cosmologies meeting in confluence to redraw bodies of indigenous knowledge and adopted disguises we use when mind crashed by a mono-cultural state. Each of these projects in the last three months have proposed the deepest and most complex questions for social and artistic practice at the end of 2023 but all in a very positive trajectory. Try to ignore the most painful things we are suffering to project an original sphere, a reformed cognitive space for better futures. Performance art and installation finding urgency of action in the social redress of past consciousness, sometimes offering hope, sometimes harmonising to wavelengths of perpetual unrest.
At the End of the Land included many experiments in perceptual holography, layers of consciousness with scrim projections and rewriting image scripts of dollshouse nightmares. Preparing Ground and Complication of Lyrebirds both used (out of necessity) single large projection covering both floor and backdrop with potentials for immersive, abstracted and split screen, composited imagery of natural forms.
