Childish Paradox
Taking time out at BigCi in February (Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives) to work on refined animation of natural forms, developing the concept of a fool's paradise by taking objects from their natural habitat and turning them into anthropomorphic, fantasy reformations which still tell something of their source, the stories of natural cycles and systems but through a colonised, appropriated lens. A child plays with nature fictions but also that kind of naivety can be destructive. I want to show the deformation which results from complacency - hybrid creatures evolve but at the expense of a destabilised ecosystem - devolving only in relation to our human needs but not necessarily for the post human world. Microbial and bacterial activity continue in a different form as the relational anthropocene vanishes.
I made seven photographic collages and nine video animations using templates of environment from the Wollemi National Park as worlds for new, isolated, object creatures. I also projected these objects onto trees and rocks outdoors to make 3D collage and documented them, showing virtual-meeting-physical and added a small amount of light and texta drawing into the mix.
